TNPA calls for extension of Tasman National Park near Crescent Bay
The Tasmanian National Parks Association (TNPA) has called on the Tasmanian Government to extend Tasman National Park near Crescent Bay, close to Port Arthur, by acquiring a property recently offered for sale (see picture).
The property is part of an area where a controversial tourism development was proposed and rejected 15 years ago because of its impacts.
TNPA President, Nick Sawyer, explained that the extension would greatly enhance the park. “The addition of the land to Tasman National Park would significantly enhance the protection of the scenic and popular Crescent Bay, and the conservation status of coastal heathland which is currently poorly represented in secure reserves”.
