The TNPA urges the State Government to abandon its proposed ‘independent’ Development Assessment Panels (DAPs) for contentious planning matters, in favour of maintaining the current legislation. Planning decisions relating to the natural environment benefit from involving people with connection to, and knowledge of the local area. Involvement in land use planning of this kind is best met by existing planning arrangements in which municipal councils perform a strong role, rather than shifting to a more removed and less democratic process.
