Final Environmental Assessment Report

The Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) has assessed the environmental impact study (RAA) documentation for the proposed Next Iconic Walk in the Tyndall Range prepared by and for the proponent, also the PWS, and concluded the proposal is acceptable. Their Environmental Assessment Report was released on 22 September 2026; see here.

The TNPA has long considered the Next Iconic Walk is the wrong idea in the wrong place, but there has never been a proper opportunity to debate this basic point since the proposal first surfaced in 2019. Input has always been around how to minimise the impact of the preordained proposal. And even then, we think the stated impacts have been underplayed in the final documentation.

PWS will now lodge a development application (DA) with the West Coast Council, the final hurdle and opportunity for public comment, although quite likely to be a rubber stamp, and then expedite seeking construction contractors.
