The case for an extension to the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area

The Spero-Wanderer Wilderness is a 138,000 ha wild region south of Macquarie Harbour. Its addition to the adjacent national parks has been advocated for 50 years. Despite this long campaign history, no publications have done justice to the natural beauty of the Spero-Wanderer region. This book co-published with the Wilderness Society Tasmania in 2025, aims to address this shortcoming. In doing so, it strengthens the already compelling case for the addition of the Spero-Wanderer area to the adjacent Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

The Tasmanian National Parks Association offers an independent voice for Tasmania’s national parks and reserves, to ensure they are managed for the conservation of the values for which they were proclaimed.
