Report and submission

We prepared the attached to summarise the background and then-current (May 2025) state of play with this project. In essence, as far as the government is concerned, it seems it is full steam ahead, with an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) for the project expected to be released in winter 2025, and completion of construction currently envisaged for 2029. Most of our original fundamental problems (see here and here) with the project remain, plus some new concerns have recently come to light.

TNPA remains of the view that the Tyndall Range is an inappropriate location for the proposed walk development and that the expenditure of the $40 million budget on other options could have benefited West Coast tourism just as much, or more.

Postscript 6 November 2025

The Environmental Impact Study (EIS) for the project – around 2,000 pages and 28 volumes of information – was released in spring 2025 and the TNPA prepared a submission in response.

The Tasmanian National Parks Association offers an independent voice for Tasmania’s national parks and reserves, to ensure they are managed for the conservation of the values for which they were proclaimed.
